On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Ocean Academy culinary classes participated in a sushi making demonstration. Ms. Gwen briefly explained the process of making sushi rice. These steps consist of cooking the sushi rice and drizzling seasoned rice wine vinegar over the steaming rice. The students also were shown the seaweed sheets called nori.
Ms. Gwen demonstrated how to roll the sushi, using cucumber, carrots, and avocado as filling. The students were then given the opportunity to make and eat their own creations. There were many students who were tasting sushi for the first time. There was overwhelmingly positive feedback about the whole class. Ocean Academy now has quite a few more sushi lovers among his numbers.
