Graduation 2017

By: Charla Cole, Instructional Paraprofessional/Substitute Teacher

This year’s third annual graduation held at Ocean County College was another great success! The graduating class of 2017 was composed of seven seniors who were all inspiring examples of personal growth, accomplishment, and academic progress. As a colorful slideshow of candid photographs filled the screen, Mr. Corbett gave a thoughtful speech about coming of age and discussed the importance of how constructive criticism can be used as a tool to better ourselves. Two of the graduates, Rachel and Cynthia, also spoke of the positive experiences they had during their time here at Ocean Academy and it was awesome to witness their poise and confidence. Other speakers included: Dr. Senese, Mrs. Lane, and Mr. Austin, who collectively drove home the message of believing in yourself no matter what and that endings are really only, “new beginnings”. Our English, Art, and History teacher Mrs. Damm was also honored, as she is retiring this year and she will be greatly missed by all of us.

After all the graduates took the stage to receive their diplomas, Mr. Corbett proudly announced the Class of 2017 which was met with an enthusiastic applause from the all who were in attendance. Parents, family members, and friends couldn’t be prouder as they snapped photos and presented gifts to their high school graduates. Some of these students will move on and some will return to OA next year to continue their journey to success. However, they will always be a part of our growing Ocean Academy family. Congratulations and best wishes to the class of 2017!!
