We live on a spaceship called Earth that is a one of a kind biosphere! With exception to the stray meteorites and the immense solar energy of the sun, our planet is a self-sustaining environment that supports all the life we see. Our biology classes have been putting a lot of time and effort into creating their own model of a biosphere. In essence they have taken the idea of Earth and shrank it into a portable version. Some students created various types of terrariums with house plants. One student wanted to create a terrarium with crickets. Many other students created models with plastic animals and explained how their ‘zoo’ is self-sustaining. Ultimately they were able to answer how matter and energy moves through their little piece of Earth.
