Many people enjoy going to a farm for fresh fruit but can’t stand taking a long drive to get there. If you are one of those people, you’re in luck, because U Pick Blueberry Farm in Lanoka Harbor is just a quick hop, skip, and a jump away from Ocean Academy. Ms. Marianne drove the entire school on the big bus to the farm located near the Lacey Walmart. Students were on their best behavior, decked out in their new light blue Ocean Academy t-shirts. Staff and students enjoyed filling their own bags with blueberries, and many of them couldn’t help but eat a few – or a few handfuls of – blueberries straight off the bush. There were rows and rows of blueberries, as far as the eye could see. Students were encouraged to leave the pinker berries and go for the bluest berries they could find. The man at the farm explained that the darker the blueberries, the sweeter that they would be. Students did a nice job waiting as the bags of blueberries were counted, weighed, and paid for. U Pick Blueberry Farms was a fun, affordable, and delicious trip! A terrific time was had by all. Students and staff got a tiny taste of what it might be like to be a blueberry farmer. The Elementary room even used some of the fresh blueberries to make scrumptious blueberry pancakes for Culinary class the following week.
