The students at OA enjoyed a wonderful performance at Count Basie Theater this week. Momix Opus Cactus, a company of dancer-illusionist thrilled us with a stunning show, creating images of cactuses, slithering lizards, and fire dancers. They captivated the audience with a mix of dance, acrobatics, and physical storytelling. What was most surprising is that these dancers made look easy, what surely took many months of practice and discipline. Opus Cactus also draws inspiration from Native American culture, which could be seen vividly in their movement, costumes and visuals.
While watching each dance, the students were encouraged to observe, listen, and reflect how all of the theatrical components came together and write about it. This allowed them to form a deeper understanding about the art of dance and how it has the ability to inspire us. It was a wonderful way to start the week here at OA and the students had a great experience.
Did You Know: Momix Opus Cactus has worked in film and television, recently appearing in a national commercial for Hanes underwear and a Target ad that premiered during the airing of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
