As a reward for good effort and participation in gym class, students got the opportunity to hit the ice for a little winter fun! The school stayed local and enjoyed the hospitality of the Winding River Skating Center in Toms River, where the staff greeted us with smiles and helping hands.
It was a new experience for many of the students, and some were a little hesitant to get out on the ice. Luckily, students were able to use “ice walkers” so that they could practice the fundamentals of ice skating while still having something to hold onto for support as they made their way around the rink. After a little bit of practice, the students started to gain confidence, and many no longer required the ice walkers. There were definitely more than a few tumbles on the ice, but it was nice to see staff and students encouraging and helping one another, as everyone could empathize with the feeling of trying something new. It was a fun time had by all, and it was a great to see everyone take a step out of their comfort zones and enjoy the benefits of taking such a chance.
