As our month of holiday themed activities continue, the students and staff at Ocean Academy had the pleasure to see the ‘Nutcracker’ at the historical Count Basie Theater. What a spectacular show it was, set to Tchaikovsky’s well known score. This awesome performance gave many of our students their first experience of viewing classical ballet at its finest. Clara and her Nutcracker took us on a colorful journey through the Land of Snow and Kingdom of Sweets to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy! Many of our students were unfamiliar with this story and really enjoyed everything from the colorful costumes to the energetic young performers. Our staff were especially proud of how well behaved and attentive the students were as to our surprise, it was a two hour show with an intermission!
Many memories were made on this trip and I am sure the students will remember viewing their first live performance of the ‘Nutcracker’ for years to come.
Did You Know: Tchaikovsky died less than a year after the original production of The Nutcracker, never knowing the impact his work would have on audiences around the world for decades to come.
