A Light Shines out on the Bay

By: Kathleen Caffee, Science Teacher

Students enjoyed a great morning at one of our states parks: Barnegat Lighthouse.  They took a leisurely stroll down the walkway and observed anglers and divers catching what the ocean provides.  We were then given the opportunity to climb 217 steps up to the top of the lighthouse!  Those that made the trek were rewarded with beautiful views 365 feet up.  Views included the Barnegat Bay, it’s many marshes and inlet into the Atlantic Ocean, Island Beach State Park, as well as the small towns lining Long Beach Island.  Some students opted for a short talk on the history of “Old Barney” and exploring the air conditioned museum.  We finished up our trip with a nice picnic lunch as the tide slowly went back out to the sea.  What a great way to end the first week of ESY!
